USDA scientists discovered the primary site where foot-and-mouth disease virus begins in cows. This break through can lead to new vaccines to help control and eradicate the harmful disease. Food-and-mouth disease is considered to be the one of the worst livestock diseases in the world. It is highly contagious and sometimes fatal.
