A previously unrecorded invasive, wakame seaweed, was found in the Fal and Helford Special Area of Conservation. Wakame (
Undaria pinnatifida) is originally from the waters of China, Korea and Japan. It is large, brown, grows rapidly and has the potential to out compete native species. Scientists hope that the early detection of this invasive species and quick response will prevent further spread.
