First North American Invasive Pond Mussel Found
State biologists confirmed Chinese pond mussels were found in Hunterdon County, New Jersey after a recent DNA test. This is the first known intrusion of the pond mussel in North America. Zebra and quagga mussels already exist in the U.S., however, scientists were stunned by the this recent invasion.
