The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are planning to raise insects as biological controls. These insects and other biological controls are used to manage the spread of invasive exotic plant species such as melaleuca, Old World climbing fern and Brazilian pepper. The insects raised here have already been through an exhaustive testing process to be sure they only prey on the invasive plant they are intended to control. To read more
