Feral hogs were brought to the U.S. as an important food source over 300 years ago by Spanish explorers and later by European settlers. They have since spread westward from the Atlantic Coast. Feral hogs are competitors with livestock and wildlife and have become targets for hunters. Yet despite all efforts, these pigs have persisted. Texas Park and Wildlife Department estimates 1.5 million feral hogs in Texas alone. The most efficient means of control is a combination of hunting and trapping year round.
