First Bioblitz in Seattle
Seattle's first bioblitz kicked off on Friday along the trails of Washington Park Arboretum. A bioblitz is an intense, 24 hour effort to identify as many species in an area as possible. Botanists stayed up all night identifying flora, insects, fauna, bats, spiders, eagles, salamanders, stinging ants and the list goes on. Nearly 400 species were identified on GPS devices which will become a part of the NatureMapping Program. This program attempts to chart biodiversity in the states.
